The nerazim are not heroes, the judicators are not bigots
One of the frustrating aspects of SC1's scripts are how juvenile they are in places, especially compared to the somewhat more nuanced take in the manual and other supplemental materials. Hard to believe these were apparently written by the same writer.
Anyway, in the protoss backstory the ancestors of the nerazim are explained as causing the apocalypse with the reckless use of their powers and provoking the khalai to fight back in self-defense. So it is entirely reasonable for the khalai to have a negative view of the nerazim.
In the scripts for Episodes 3 and 4, during the protoss civil war, none of this is ever brought up and the judicators are framed as irrational idiotic bigots being mean to the innocent nerazim who just want to help. The judicator's suspicion is completely reasonable: the nerazim caused the apocalypse in the past and now they came back claiming they only want to use their powers to help. How are the judicator supposed to know that the nerazim are telling the truth and will not destroy them the same way they did millennia ago? Remember, the judicator exiled them and it is entirely reasonable for the nerazim to desire revenge in turn and the judicator have every reason to believe that the nerazim would seek vengeance. (The c-list character Ulrezaj is a golden example of this. He and his followers want revenge for the khalai's crimes against his ancestors and tries to destroy them multiple times.)
To add insult to injury, the reconciliation between the judicator and nerazim later on in Episode 3 just comes across as "they need to team up because plot." The bad blood and philosophical differences are never resolved on screen, or even brought up to begin with. Then in Episode 4 some terrorists start fighting again, in the middle of another apocalypse, for no better reason than "the design team demanded protoss vs protoss missions." The in-story reason is not even remotely convincing, and I'll explain that when I do a post about Aldaris.
Poor, poor Aldaris. Blizz did him dirty.
I like your thoughts on the issues of SC1 story. Aldaris was right about Kerrigan, yet Zeratul and Artanis noticed it too late as Kerrigan struck the killing blow on that poor Judicator. Can you do the issues of Terran next?
