QoB doesn't fit the zerg, lacks purity of essence

What makes the zerg zerg is their "purity of essence." This means they're driven to constantly pursue perfection, which they do by consuming all species in their path and using what they learn to create new engineered organisms and alter themselves to become ever more efficient. They're comparable to the Borg or tyranids, who also seek perfection by consuming the species in their path.

Where the writing screws up is that it adds Queen of Blades, who doesn't demonstrate purity of essence at all. In her original appearance in episode 2 she acts absolutely nothing like her original personality so you wouldn't know they were ever the same character if the script didn't tell you (not even an evil version of Kerry, QoB is a spoiled brat who speaks in faux Shakespeare), she is whiny and argumentative, she is vain and spoiled and selfish (in direct contrast to the other zerg characters who always act calm and collected even under extreme stress), constantly makes stupid decisions when left to her own devices, never takes responsibility for her bad behavior, and is never held accountable by her peers except for Zasz who gets killed off for it (btw, these are classic Mary Sue traits). In episodes 4 and 6 she is suddenly motivated by a desire to take over the zerg (using new powers to control zerg that the writer gave her just for the occasion that she never displayed before) and subjugate the sector, for no other reasons than petty revenge and vanity like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. She actively defies any opportunity to pursue anything that benefits the zerg as a whole or their quest for perfection. She thinks she's already perfect (as humans do) and the universe should be altered to suit her. She lacks purity of essence and therefore doesn't fit the zerg thematically.

When you read about how the writers developed her character during drafting, the reason for this inconsistency becomes clear. She was never intended to thematically fit the zerg nor display purity of essence. She was added because the writers thought the zerg were boring unless they had a human character, the writers wanted to force a connection to the preceding human campaign by recycling the preceding characters, and the writers wanted her corruption to the dark side to emotionally suckerpunch the player.

This inconsistency becomes especially obvious in the script of Heart of the Swarm, where the higher budget meant the writers stopped and took the time to explore the zerg culture that they neglected to do in the first game (outside the manual that nobody read, anyhow). When you compare the zerg's explained history and motivations side-by-side with Kerry's, the schizoid nature of the writing becomes obvious.
